We call it Bible Study, but it’s really the adventure of theology. I think theological reflection should be a joy, and I’m not sure the Church has always made it so for many people! Learning who God is, what God has already done for us, and what God wants for us is a joy that can’t be surpassed. And is perfectly comforting. Theological reflection is our attempt to remain faithful to what God has revealed about who God is and how God loves us.
And so most of our time is spent in “Bible Study”, reading and discussing God’s Word, which is God’s self-revelation. We call it the Bible. How can the Holy Scriptures be anything but beautiful and good when they are the words of our Lord Jesus Himself – who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?
Sometimes we take a break from Scripture, per se, to talk about specific topics of interest to the group, including history and theology and literature and music and baked goods (we had some really great Hamantaschen not too long ago!). And sometimes we follow rabbit trails that wander far afield from an original topic. Still, the interconnectedness of all things to God and God’s Word always shines through.
Come join us as we partake of the joy and delight that accompanies learning about our God!
St. John’s Grace invites you to join us this Sunday morning at 9:30 for Bible Study!
St. John’s Grace Bible Study continues! Join us this Sunday (December 4, 2022) at 9:30 a.m. when we will continue looking at “liturgy”. Last week we walked through the liturgical year that many denominations, including our own, adhere to. This week we’ll review that and look at the parts of the divine service – our weekly worship.
We’re always looking forward to seeing everyone again and learning from everyone. No experience necessary, either – Newbies are welcome and encouraged!
NOTE: Sunday Adult Church School (Bible Study) will take a break for the Advent and Christmas seasons. There will be no Sunday Adult Church School on December 11th, 18th, 25th, or January 1st. We return on January 8th! We meet at 9:30 a.m., in the Meeting Room across the hall from the Sunday School classroom for youngsters. Drop your kids off and come to the conversation. No kids? No problem! You can still come! Hope to see you there!
Feel free to call or email David at the church office if you have any questions or comments about the study.
